Trust Administration

Trust Administration

Trust administration is the discharge of the duty of the successor trustee to the beneficiaries.

Procedure

While a trust is administered out of court, formalities are still important to protect both the trustee and the beneficiaries.  A trustee must comply with state law, work with financial firms, manage and inventory assets, and finally distribute assets to beneficiaries.  Our office helps manage those tasks for the trustee while protecting the trustee from liability and avoiding family conflict.

Time Frame

In theory, a trust could be administered in a single afternoon—I’ve done so on several occasions.  In reality, it usually takes two to three months to gather information and sell or distribute property.  The good news is that the process can move much more quickly and efficiently than when the courts are involved.

Estate Litigation

While most estates, whether in trust or in probate, are administered without major issues, conflict can and does occur.  Our office is experienced in estate litigation and prepared to assist clients should it arise.  Whether you’re contesting or defending an estate, our office can help you protect your rights and assets.
